Downgrading to kernel version 5.10.0-33-amd64 solved it for me. From what I can understand the issues with latest kernel is related to the missing linux-header dependency. I'm kind of new to the entire Linux package management thing though so I might be missing something here.

You're kidding.
We have to downgrade the kernel for compatibility? :o

I couldn't install the required Linux headers for 6.11.5 due to the already mentioned dependency issue. There may be other, more recent kernels available, or it might be possible to resolve the dependency issue in some way. I opted for a kernel compatible with the Linux headers already available in COS. As I mentioned, I'm fairly new to Linux package handling and may be missing some fundamentals here.

I tried installing Nvidia's drivers on my old Atom C64x. It told me that X Server cannot be running during installation. Maybe switch to Wayland for COS?

Hmmm...You must mean the proprietary nVidia drivers as the Nouveau(?) open source one will be utilised automatically.
My original Atom based C64x has funky misbehaving motherboard....
So I'm unsure if some of the issues I'm having are that or the OS at the moment.
I'll be checking that out shortly.

As for Wayland, the benefits to Commodore OS in terms of GPU performance gains are inconsequential as we are uniquely using Compiz/Emerald.
Moving to Wayland is entirely the Mate desktop team's decision.
If they were to do so, it would likely render Compiz/Emerald incompatible and we would lose all our nice desktop effects, which make the COS experience unique in this day and age.

Pretty much whats going on here that the kernel is so far in the future from what is supported by the OS base system that more or less every dependency breaks as it expects later releases than whats is available for that subsystem.

To get everything working as it should a full upgrade to latest stable is more or less needed.

Looks like we wait for Debian 12 I guess, from the nvidia forums I found this "Debian 11 is outdated and can’t be used on a modern hybrid graphics notebook with a current cpu. Please use any other distro"

The next version is in the works.
No showstoppers so far, but I can't give an ETA just yet.
I might have to drop some new features I was working on because delivering sooner for compatibility takes precedence.
I can always get the rest in on an update later.
In fact it might be better that way as you wouldn't be forced to upgrade from COS2 to COS3 to get the new stuff which would work on either version.

I'm ashamed to say how little about Linux that I know, four days ago I knew absolutely nothing lol. I thought it was just Linux and didn't realise just how many branches it had such as Debian 11 and 12 and other different flavours of Linux branches like fedora etc. I'm also on nvidia so I too ran into this issue

Still have a love for Commodore OS Vision though, I'm hazy on updates though? I've always used Windows tbh how do we update for future reference?
