Installing Commodore OS Vision

If have a problem with installing COS. I read this thread, but acually it didn't help, because I'm a really newbie here.

What I did:
generating a bootable usb with rufus (serval versions) with the ISO from the website
https://www.commodoreos.net/CommodoreOS.aspx

I alwaiys was running into:
Init: version 2.96 booting
...
...
...
Waiting for /dev to be fully populated...

Then the installation stops

I read in a post that someone solved that with Failsave. What is ment with this?

Hardware:
ASRock N100DC-itx mainboard
Samsung SSD 980 with 250 GB
Ranxiana SSD 128 GB (2,5")

I solved this issue. I found the failsave in the advanced section

Installation was running fine, after that.

But now I got a new problem. I updates the Kernel with the option in COS, and now it is not starting after reboot.

Then don't do that!

Seriously though, if the OS is running fine on your hardware then there is no definite requirement to update the kernel.
It's a nice thing to include, in the hopes of increasing hardware compatibility, but the benefits otherwise are not really noticeable.
I've always thought, if anything, updating the kernel might lead to instability, but your account is the first I've actually heard of this occurring.
You might just want to reinstall and not undertake a kernel upgrade.

Yes you are right
I just tried to get another resolution than 800 x 600 wich fits to the 16:9 format of the monitor.
Is there a way to to change this without doing the kernel or OS update?

I noticed the other day that a vga cable may not allow you to go higher than that.

Okay I am a little lost with installing, finally figured out why my rog strix wouldn't recognise the USB. Everything seems okay but I want to install to a separate drive not my C drive, basically my question is when does it ask what drive I want to install it to? I really don't want to overwrite Win10.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Probably a dumb question I'm sure, but after creating a USB boot image to boot from and install the OS, do you have to boot this USB on the actual computer you intend to install it on? I'd rather boot the USB on a different computer and then have it install the OS onto a SSD I intend to then later install into another computer to use.

I guess the question is are there specific things the boot USB is trying to configure properly related to the hardware it's currently running on, which wouldn't work properly if the SSD it installs it on is then used to run it on a different computer?

I guess I can only say it depends.

There may be complications, especially if the destination hardware configuration differs significantly from the installed configuration. Linux is pretty good at hardware detection all things considered. You never know until you try it unfortunately. If you can at least get to a text prompt you may be able to fix any problems that may occur, like maybe a missing driver or something, but there is no guarantee. Multiple drives on a system may further complicate the issue. Failing that, once you've got the drive on your destination PC I don't see what would stop you installing COS the way it was intended.

Thanks for the info. I'll just use the USB to install it directly on the computer I intend to use commodore OS on to be safe. That computer (laptop) I've got taken apart at the moment updating some stuff, which is why I was going to use another computer to create the SSD until I put this thing back together. Guess that's enough motivation to finish it up.
