Greetings,
It is my pleasure to officially announce the imminent release of Commodore OS Vision 3.0, which is a free fan-made Commodore inspired Linux distribution (now based on Debian Bookworm) which serves as the default installation for Commodore branded machines such as the Commodore 64x available from MyRetroComputer.com. Commodore OS is a retro futuristic "vision" of what Commodore might have produced in an alternate timeline.
The Biggest Games Oriented Linux Distribution Ever!
Commodore OS Vision 3.0 will be a large, games oriented, Linux distribution, featuring 200+ free linux compatible games as well as an assortment of classic Commodore games and demos that will undoubtedly scratch your nostalgic itch all neatly categorized by genre or platform. jGamebase is also included with a number of Demobases set up.
Announcing Commodore OS BASIC
Commodore OS BASIC V1 is a modern BASIC implementation featuring 3D graphics, built-in sprites, built-in tilemaps, 2D and 3D physics and user types. Future development will be geared towards first mimicking and then compiling software for the original C64 and Amiga hardware. With Commodore emulation all set up, a plentitude of pixel based graphics editors, as well as MOD and SID trackers, why not build you dream retro game on Commodore OS?
Commodore OS Does BASIC
As Commodore popularized BASIC more than any other computer platform, it is only fitting that it be the core development pathway in Commodore OS. If Commodore OS BASIC itself isn't enticing enough, several other exceptional BASIC development environments are also included such as Gambas 3 BASIC(for writing Windowed form and web applications), BASIC-256(perfect for learning BASIC), the venerable sdlBasic and Fuze BASIC(capable of rich 3D and often taught in schools). But even better than that, you can even go old school and program in the original C64 BASIC with the included CBM prg Studio.
Even More Programming Options
But Commodore OS doesn't stop at BASIC, it also includes the Godot engine and Unity development environments, which are perfect for creating your dream indie game. You're even ready to go, to make games for the Tilt5 Augmented Reality system. If you want to get your young children interested in programming, but BASIC is too hard, they will have a ball programming in the drag and drop system called Scratch.
Introducing Commodore OS Central
Commodore OS Central hopes to serve as a resource hub containing things of interest to users such as manuals and other retro oriented resources. Development is well underway towards it becoming a game installer/store/launcher which includes community interaction.
A New Settings Manager
Commodore OS Vision 3.0 now features a new retro inspired Settings Manager, for configuring ROMS, startup options and much more.
