Main Menu Items Missing

Post by Mandrake »

Hey all,

So I need help restoring my menu. I don't know what changed, but instead of Sound, Video, and all the great stuff therein, I suddenly had "Multimedia" with nothing but "LSP Plugins" inside of it, and neither Sound or Video were able to appear on the menu. So, I tried "Revert" and the only thing that did was get rid of the Customized Commodore options at the bottom of the menu, but the "Multimedia" is still present and I guess it's hard coded - because it doesn't exist in the editor. And now, Sound and Video have many less items in them.

Any way to restore the menu to install defaults? I updated, but that didn't do it. So... I don't want to reinstall if I can keep from it. I'd be willing to go through and just add back the folders and drag items myself - but it appears that like the sounds, the menu has been hard-set or something and the menu editor does nothing in many cases. It does allow some changes, but not these.

Thank you!

That sounds absolutely bizarre. Like something has seriously gone off the rails.
A drag and drop gone wrong??? Who knows. It's the first time I've heard of something like this.

There's a backup of the user desktop config under /etc/skel
Try these commands and let me know how it goes. You can get to a terminal with "CTRL + T" keys.

Code: Select all

cp -rf /etc/skel/.config/menus/*.* ~/.config/menus/
cp -rf /etc/skel/.local/share/applications/*.* ~/.local/share/applications/
Don't try this at home guys...unless you have the same problem.

You may need to reboot before you see the menus change.

Thank you, that certainly restored the menu, but I think the latest update messed with the whole "Multimedia" thing. That wasn't there before if memory serves.

Sound and Video both now exist again, and have all the goodies in them, but only within the menu editor. They simply will not show up in the menu when using the dock launcher for the menu.

HOWEVER, if you access the menu from the top bar "Applications" - everything is normal, and "Multimedia" does not exist, nnor does it exist in the menu editor so... something is very strange!

I can deal with using the Application menu from the top for now. It's not quite as extensive, but you can work your way to everything regardless or just use both menus for what you want :)

Thank you again!

Hmmm... I'm a little surprised that that dock would be drawing from a different application list.

Maybe it just needs to be triggered via an update.

I've been updating Commodore OS and have not seen a menu glitch yet.
It would freak me out if it did!!! :o

Just so you have them - here are screenshots of the menus. Funny enough, screenshot does not work while just having a menu open, so I have to click on the desktop and take the shot super fast... so, the menus are wobbly due to them being in the process of closing LOL - so... it is what it is :)
