I was reading the installation instructions for VMWare, and it states I should start the VM and install DirectX End User Runtime from Microsoft Downloads. I can't find a version of this software for Linux, which is what Commodore OS Vision is running under.
My other question is whether the Commodore OS Vision 3.0 is able to run under a Linux VMWare Workstation, or Windows VMWare Workstation only.

Re: DirectX End User Runtime, VMWare Workstation Linux
Hopefully someone on the forum can provide assistance.
I don't use VMware personally (and I'm reluctant to start yet another new thing), and I was grateful a forum contributor provided those instructions.
My preference would be to use VirtualBox wherever possible which I know works excellently (if you set it up right and give it enough resources!).

Re: DirectX End User Runtime, VMWare Workstation Linux
Vmware is now free for personal use. Not only that but imho it beats Virtualbox in 3d options wich some Windows programs do need, think even some games. Think about designspark mechanical. Reason some people want a small windows install is to run the oddball windows program that linux won't run in wine then wy not max compatibility?LeoNigro wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 4:37 am Hopefully someone on the forum can provide assistance.

On the other hand: It is totaly possible to get rid of VB and install VMware. I mean Commodore OS is not realy your typical small linux install anyway and thats fine. To get back to OP: Directx is a windows runtime. This means it should be installed in a emulated environment (windows) and not linux itself.

Oh, are you saying to include vmware in Commoodore OS?
Okay, I'll include it in the next version along with Qemu.
In the next version (COS3.1?) I'm hoping to have a lite version allowing practically everything to be optional and can be rolled back.
