Is the Commodore OS the Future of Retro Computing or Just a Nostalgic Dream?

Post by BollyGof »

As we witness a resurgence in retro computing, do you believe that Commodore OS has the potential to evolve and compete with modern operating systems, or is it merely a fond memory for enthusiasts? How can we balance nostalgia with innovation in this space?

I think people are trying to fit a round peg into a square hole with this concept. COS is not trying to be a retro OS, it is a modern OS that contains a ton of retro styling, content, and makes development for those retro systems we all love readilay accessible, testable, and enjoyable.

COS is (in my opinion) A very robust Debian distribution that can stand up against any other distro out there, it is all a matter of preference, branding, and what someone wants to enjoy and accomplish.

Like Ubuntu Studio - everything you need for video, but especially audio design and production. I mean everything you need is packaged in. People still use it and promote it, but it's not a widely known distro.

COS is pretty straightforward in it's use case for any number of future Commodore branded hardware devices (I'm using it as my daily driver on my Panasonic Toughbook, and have no complaints functionally at all), but beyond that, this isn't an OS that will run on vintage hardware of course. So I think that's where people kind of cross the streams as it were :D

I don't think COS was ever intended to be a substitute for the original C64 system. It's a modern take with a crapload of capability focused on the classic hardware systems.

Just my $0.02 anyway... Have a good one!

Hi caved.
Thanks for your great rebuttal. However, had I got here sooner I would have deleted the initial post.
It's amazing how clever the AI bots have become.
Can you imagine how provocative this could be in public political discourse?
People arguing with AI bots is probably the norm now.
I've already wasted too much time with AI bots like this.
At first it was fun and novel....but I'm over it.
I watched a youtube video the other day, that shows you how obvious the AI output is in structure, such that it would be difficult to be fooled again.

Help me understand: I reacted to a post with your name on it that wasn't actualy yours? If this is about
the little thing i made in gambas? You can do all that the program does in the terminal given you have
to commands. I just showcased it as it is unique to linux no distro has anything like it. Some do in repos
but in other forms. When you liked it i tailored it a bit to be in line with COS with speech and stuff.

A Screenmode tool lets you set the screenmode then you quit the program as you no longer need it.
Same goes for n AI tool. You got a task or a problem (may it be coding or other) you could use input on.
Both are the same: I would never argue with n AI. It is just a tool (sometimes a dumb one at that) wich is
fun.

I don't tell people what to like or what to do. Just not that kinda person. Make available what i have
of wich i think can be fun for others. Thought thats what COS was about.....
It's all fine with me one way or the other, we good. :D :D

The initial post on this thread is not mine though. It is an AI bot.
I certainly am not critiquing you for responding, more bemused at the power of AI.
There have been a spate of posts like this on the forum of late that's all, so I recognise them now.
My comment above has nothing to do with your program and I will be responding to your PM shortly.
We good! :D

Oh man, I absolutely got snickered didn't I? You get relaxed somehwere you feel like you're in your "own community" and you stop paying attention to detail. That absolutely does read as a typical AI "topical post".

Meh. My bad!
