Not a software issue - but games claiming to need real hardware run fine?

Post by bluejeans »

In this case, gl-117. Constant 60fps with default settings under vmware 12, i7-870, 24gb ram, gt 1030. I feel like this game is so simple that vmware can handle emulation of opengl just fine, but I don't really know that much about vm's. I'm certain that for most games flagged with this warning that it's not the case, but I'm curious about what the criteria is for determining whether a game needs bare metal. Basically if it needs opengl, it's flagged as not vm-compatible?

Actually, it was flagged because VirtualBox would not handle its mouse input correctly.
It was too sensitive and unplayable as were some of the first person shooters.
I'm glad you've had success though with vmware. It may turn out that my flagging does not apply for it.
Once I upgrade my main drive I'll have to give COS a good test on vmware.

I had to change the mouse setting on vmware, I thought virtualbox might have something similar. Under vmware you set the mouse mode to not support games, oddly enough.
