Volume at full - HELP
I run two distros on my i Mac, the first in my grub menu is Debian 12 OS, I use this for everyday use and the second is my chill use Commodore OS Vision 3.0 which I return to several times a week, the problem is at startup the volume jumps to full blast and literally scares the living daylights out of everyone in the household . I have to be at hand to put the volume on mute then once the music stops its introduction, I then take it down from 100% to 25%. I have taken the levels down in pavucontrol but next boot reverts to 100% all over again, suggestions welcome on how to resolve.

Have you performed an update? I remember specifically setting the volume to 80 percent on start up. I'll have to check. Maybe I should make this a setting.

yes, I have been updating regularly , also I have been removing a lot of programs I won't need like libre office and tinkering with Mate, which I probably shouldn't have been, I have since reset it back to the default CommodoreOS theme. I will have undoubtedly tweaked a setting somewhere, I can't help myself, I just do it and usually regret it. Thanks for looking and getting back so quick.
Re: Volume at full - HELP
Currently the volume only gets set to 80% for the SID tunes on startup.
I will change it in the next update so it sets sound to 80% on all startups.
I will also make a setting in the settings manager so you can set the startup volume percentage.
FIXTODO
Nothing wrong with tinkering. Make it do exactly what you want. I hope we can facilitate that.
Just curious what you like tinker with... are you tinkering with the visual effects?
I intend to include an option that gives users the choice of selecting from graphical effect presets, and of course you can tinker with it further and use the presets as a reset if you find yourself unable to back out of a settings change.

First of all, the latest updates/additions were very welcomed and added a lot of quality of life for 'daily driver use' for those of us doing so.
Second, so far as volume goes - I think that saving the state of the machine at shutdown would be preferable to a hard volume-level set.
Example: My Toughbook that I have this installed on is EXCEPTIONALLY loud by nature. They designed these things for military and police use. 80% on them is like 150% on most laptops. I can literally turn my volume down to 8% and watch YT videos in a hotel room and have a debate with myself if it's a little too loud as the night gets quieter. lol
The new settings have allowed me to simply disable sounds, so it is a more smooth experience in a work environment, etc. But, if the volume slider was able to just startup at whatever we left it at (like 5% or 15% or whatever), we could just leave sounds on and not have to toggle things to be able to enjoy everything. Everyone loves a nice startup sound! Right?

This begs the question of why I altered the volume in the first place. What was I thinking?
IIRC I set it because during testing I was frequently restarting in the middle of a music fade, and the volume could get stuck on the low end, and I thought, as that might be a common occurrence, I would prevent that by setting it to 80% on start up.
But clearly that was a really stupid decision on my part.
I'll see if I can tie into the shutdown mechanism to record the current volume for the subsequent reboot.
If that proves to difficult, I can record the volume whenever an app is launched (but not during a music fade), which should accomplish the same thing in the end. Actually, that sounds "Super easy, barely an inconvenience."

Re: Volume at full - HELP
Thanks for the response Leo, I like the whole package we get with vision3.0, the versions are coming so fast, I barely had time to trial version 2, you guys are remembering to take vacations I hope...I have only scratched the surface of everything that is available, because, for myself, this is purely for pleasure, I removed all the libreoffice and other work related apps that was pretty much bloat (to me) and getting in the way of revisiting my teenage youth of the mid 1980's . I'm currently running the free version of amikit using Amiga Forever and winUAE through virtualbox on Commodore Vision 3.0 with Debian 12 backbone, and think to my self, wow that it so complicated, I think builds like AROS, particularly Icaros has the right approach, cuts through all the emulation and the end result is very nice. I hope the future will see a similar C= OS that runs native. What you have given us, this is brilliant, a great way to spend an evening reminiscing of the games from the past.

It's the difference between having your nose buried in the project, and people out in the world using it, that's all. It's absolutely epic what you've accomplished and there's a whole lot of us out here that simply can't thank you enough.
I'm still floored at how snappy everything is on this old slab of hardware I have. It's literally twice as fast as a clean install of Mint, Ubuntu, or Zorin (what I run on my main PC at home). Regardless of all the Compiz extras (which are such a great call back for me during the 'desktop awesomeness wars') you have done some serious work on optimisation somehow.
I spend more time on my old toughbook than my main PC these days, because it's just FUN again. I'm honestly thinking it might be time to swap in a new SSD and do a fresh install on the main PC. lol
Have a good one!
