People have asked about this before.
I guess having a discord is the cool thing of late, but it is yet another thing that would have to be monitored.
I feel a forum essentially accomplishes the same thing. Maybe I'm a little old school in that regard.
I've joined a few discords over the years, and especially when they're established I find them a little overwhelming, and you just get lost in the lack of structure and endless chat threads.
I've seen there is value for a group of developers to conference but is it valuable for the general public?
However, maybe there is something I am missing and I'm open to discussing it.
Maybe it is time. Convince me.

Discord is alot faster and easyer platform to share pictures even video. Users of the OS
can converse often in realtime on what they are doing with a OS or having problems with. They
can get help alot faster. Showcase their system. As there often are many users in a DC channel discuss stuff
in realtime. Need i go on?? While i am n OG to it IS time to step into the 20th century
You wouldn't think of it but people might even talk about non related COS stuff. Yes not making this up.

How about discussing C64 games or Sid music, Amiga emulation. Programming C64 basic, Gambas, all topics on a DC
server for n OS. Linux in general. MX specific stuff i can go on till tommorow morning if you like...
Convinced yet?

I dunno, those are all the discussions already happening here in the forums. However, Discord makes them more 'real time'. My alternative suggestion would be a web/telnet accessible BBS with chat. They make really advanced chat modules these days that are still easily installed as a module into several available BSS systems. Kind of a cross between basic BBS Chat and IRC and you can share pics and such at speed if you like, but I love being able to pick my speed (300,1200,2400,etc baud) for the interactive experience!
Some of the old online games are actually a lot of fun, and you need the 'slowdown' to enjoy the screen-draw time on the "graphics" loading, etc.
Just an idea. Much easier to moderate as well - you're not as likely to get bots and other headaches on a non-standard system.
Later!
