The mouse gets stuck in upper right corner and four C= desktops are zoomed in and out, in and out,..
  • PC Lenovo 10140 Erazer X510 (64 bit) (2013)
  • Nvidia MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4G
  • /also a onboard video for testing.
  • 16G ram. Memtest passed. 48/48. 100%
  • The PC woorks good in Windows 10 on a HDD.
  • SSD for the Commodore OS.

Hi! I really want to try this Distro. It looks great!, But I probable have some motherboard/BIOS problems.

-------------------------------------------------------
I have installed this OS several times due to the motherboard/BIOS problems.

Here are some things i came across during my tests:
Rufus forced me to fiddling around in the Winows 10 anivirus.
And the ISO from the direct link gave Etcher some "Error: (0, h.requestMetadata) is not a function"

So in my case the the final solution and safest and easiest thing was to actually install Utorrent Classic from https://www.utorrent.com/
for the torrent (utorrent Web did not work),
and then make a bootable USB for the installation with
Etcher https://etcher.balena.io/
------------------------------------------------------

Now to the motherboard/BIOS problem:

I ran into motherboard/BIOS problems when booting via the bootable USB
Right when i am getting to the desktop the mouse gets stuck in upper right corner,
and four C= desktops are zoomed in and out, in and out,in and out, in and out..and so on.
and the mouse gets stuck in upper right corner.
At the best i could press shift or ctrl to stop the in and out zooming and switch beetween desktops with the arrow keys..
But then almost not able to write, or click anyting else..

Tried with several different mouse and keyboards, and onboard videocard and several different videocards.
But same result all the time.

I asked for help here and LeoNigro repliedwith a link to the solution!
And here I describe how I solved it:

1. Try to Stop the in and out zooming whit shift or ctrl, (maybe with a little spamming at the right pace. and use TAB to move)
2. Try to press ALT+F2 to launch the terminal, (maybe with a little spamming at the right pace. and use TAB to move)
3. Try to type in:
sudo modprobe -r psmouse
(maybe with a little spamming at the right pace.)
(and use TAB to move,)
and hit Enter. (maybe with a little spamming at the right pace. )
Then it stops zooming and the mouse is woorking as normal. :geek:

 At this point it is a good time to install the Commodore OS and then remove the bootable USB stick.
Then Reboot, change the boot order and then after reboot repeat the 1-2-3 steps above.

The next step is to make this command code persistent for the next and future startups.
It can be done in several different ways, and I tried several different ways,
but then I'm new to linux the easiest way is to put this command code in a OS file.
That file is unfortunately owned by "the root".
So to have permission to write in in that file you first have to log in as "root".

1. Press: ALT+F2 to launch the terminal
2. Type: sudo -1 (and hit Enter. Now you are a root "being") :ugeek:

3. Open the file rc.local with any editor. The file are found in folder /etc/rc.local
4. on the line before 0 you must write:
modprobe -r psmouse
5. save the file and reboot your Commodore OS and continue with the rest of the installation steps, such as starting the firewall, and updating the kernel to the latest, etc.

You have now hopefully managed to get your old junk motherboard working!!

Thanks !

How weird. I had no idea this was a thing....but a quick google later I discovered this, which has a few solutions to the problem.

It's nothing to do with the way you installed COS but seems to be something common to your hardware and linux.

Basically, see if this works from the command line.

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe -r psmouse
Let us know how you go and what solution you went with.

Good luck.

I have to thank you for the tip. You are amazing!
You found the solution.
I changed the original post to be more readable and focus on the problem, and the solution and my steps.
Thanks ! :D
