Has anybody come up with a screen solution?

Post by munecito »

Has anybody come up with a solution to put one modern computer monitor into a CRT looking cabinet to compliment the look of a C-64?

The biggest challenge is that most old school monitors were 4:3 so it is not that easy to reuse an old case.

I did have a serious think(like for a day) about about gutting my broken tube Commodore 1701 monitor and replacing the innards with an industrial 4:3 LCD. I can't seem to find a replacement tube anywhere. Alibaba sells a bunch. But I don't have the time, and maybe not the prowess to do it properly either.

MyRetroComputer were thinking of a kickstarter for a themed monitor....but I THINK that's on indefinite hold as further C64x production takes priority.

If it ever comes to fruition, I'm trying to convince them to go 4:3 so at least that differentiates the monitor from (almost) every other and opens it up to the retro community as a viable alternative to their aging monitors. I'd like to see it feature a coloured bezel and an optional stand. But that's just my two cents.

I saw the rendering the other day. It looks good but I agree 4:3 would make it look better.

If I was allowed to dream I would even make it a fake crt and the rear of the screen would be a storage for the peripherals or USB drives o or other related hardware.

I wore sell it as a flat pack to save in postage fees.

In the meantime my niece will have to do with a Lenovo monitor from Officeworks that was heavily discounted.

Ah, come on man! Don't show me pages like this. Now that's another page I will be refreshing -- weekly -- for the next few years! And then it'll end up costing me money!

I am actually keeping my eye out for an old Commodore monitor. The problem is I live in the middle of nowhere, so it's hard to get anyone to post one and the nearest large city that isn't a country town is almost 3 hours drive from here -- and even that is one of the smallest cities in Australia.
