I am SO tempted to download Commodore Vision OS and play with it but I am refraining, because I'm holding off the the arrival of on my Commodore 64 that I purchased from Mini-ITX. It left Great Britain on the 16th of December. I want my first experience with Commodore OS Vision to be on the actual Commodore 64. So I'll load it up and check out the older version. And then I'll upgrade it.
I am determined to start making videos in 2025, because I work as an SEO and I've come to the conclusion that the only way to really grow online and gain traction these days is with the help of "authority" and this means also using social media and video platforms, and growing a multi channel audience. This Commodore 64 I have purchased sis going to be used as a media machine. It will store media, but will also be used to render videos, etc. However, it will also be used for "retro" stuff and FUN! So that's why I will not be removing Commodore vision OS.
I will make a series of videos about the Commodore 64 -- everything from an Unboxing Video to a first impression video and operating the computer. I will connect 3 screens up to it, so the setup is going to look pretty nice. I am also aiming to give some Kudos to Leo, Mini-ITX and everyone else that made it possible. So that's why this thread: "The History of Commodore Vision OS" is very helpful. I will use what I learned there in the videos.
I'm slightly disappointed that the computer took one day to get from GB to France, and it was in Dubai one day after that, then Singapore one day after that also -- but it's been in Australia for A WEEK -- and it's been Sitting in a FedEx facility for 5 of those days, waiting to be delivered to me. The tracking even said that I was to expect in on Tuesday 24th (2 days ago). I was pretty excited -- but it never came. So the tracking has been in limbo since then. Apparently it's still sitting at the facility. So annoying! I could have spent time with it over the holidays.
I suspect it has something to do with Australia Post, because a lot of the couriers partner with Australia post to bring stuff to my region -- which is remote. Anyway, so you'll likely see quite a few videos from me over the coming months. I'm not exactly very good an making videos, so this is going to be a learning experience for me. I'm going to try to make it interesting and professional though. I'll never be able to make a video as good as what Retro Recipes made.
By the way, I don't actually use the name 'termite'. The only reason I used that name is because I first joined this forum from my Lounge Room computer/media station (which we call/use the name "Termite Valley"), which is also Linux. So the videos I make will be made as Mr Len (mrlen), which is my usual name/handle online.
Any way's here's what i ordered:
Commodore OS Vision Installation (Compatible Builds Only, No Support/Warranty)
32GB DDR4 3200 SODIMM only for selected boards
32GB DDR4 3200 SODIMM only for selected boards
Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 1TB Type 2280 NVMe M.2 Drive for Selected Boards
Samsung 870 EVO 2TB 2.5in SATA SSD (will be used to back up drive 1)
C64x Retro Keyboard Chassis - Original Beige
C64x Ultimate System with Intel i9-9880H, 4GB GTX1650, AC Adapter
CARRIAGE
The whole thing cost me 1,264.11 GBP, which is $2,536.34 Australian dollars.
Another thing I didn't expect is that when it got into Australia, I got an SMS saying I have to pay import duties and taxes, and had to pay a further $362.10. I was devo! So basically, coming across Retro Recipes video a couple of months ago has wound up costing me almost $3k AUD, lol. However, I'm very glad to have bought it. I'm just disappointed it's been sitting at a FedEx Facility for 5 days (again, probably Australia Posts fault; but I won't know for sure until it's actually delivered).
But anyways, I am chomping at the bit to unbox it and record the process and start making videos, etc. Oh, and I'm going to install AI on it too, so I'll make a video about that.
I'm Excited!

I've got it! Stay tuned for an unboxing video and a series of videos, exploring the new Commodore 64 with commodore Vision OS!
*I had to drive a SEVEN HOUR round trip to go pick it up, or it would have spent an eternity in a FedEx warehouse (and probably got lost). Absolutely pathetic. I put up with dodgy FedEX notifications and non-delivery for 9 days, before I got into my car and went to the facility myself. Again, pathetic. I'm sending FedEx an invoice for my time, fuel and labour to complete the courier run for them. I'm not joking.
...anyways, I have it how. I'm pretty excited!

FedEx is beyond useless. Makes Australia Post seem like a dream.
