Hi I am just downloading the iso, as I type, for another machine but my existing commodore OS is running right now, is the upgrade process a matter of running the software updater ? I haven't found the documentation about any particular method ,do's or do nots. Maybe I should stop and find that first, because I've grown fond of my setup.
PS Thank you so much for releasing this 3.0!
IMO, commodore OS is the single most fun linux distro / OS to exist.
Upgrade to OS3.0 ?

Re: Upgrade to OS3.0 ?
I'm afraid updating from within COS2 to COS3 is not an option, much that I wish that it was.
The way Linux works though you'd end up downloading everything again in place anyway, and I'd rather not have to host all the extras.
If you're happy with COS2 I think that's great. Everything looks identical on the surface and TBH it worked a little better if not for my hacks.
COS3 was really spurred by COS2 falling out of compatibility with newer PCs (because Debian wanted to).
COS2 probably has a year or two more of package support, so there was really a need to move on a new version.
The differences are:
the retro settings manager (which will have a growing array of options as we proceed),
Commodore OS BASIC and a bunch of cool programming software.
More demos, SIDs and MODs, more PD games
200+ games.
More sounds.
More personality....and more to come.
An update process that leads to faster fixes of issues and global configuration tweaks. (I already fixed 2 or 3 bugs post release)
Get a new jingle every boot. (I'll have to put in a setting to turn that off as that may not be everyone's cup of tea)
And more fun, fun, fun. Hopefully without it getting too stupid.
I had to drop some features for the release......so there's far more fun to come.
It's not as though I'm not happy to support issues with COS2, but COS3 is where I'll be at.
And whilst, I could update some of these things in COS2, I just don't want to open pandoras box of support issues.
It's funny how I can suddenly relate to Microsoft, and the some of the support decisions they need to make.
It's a big download to be sure, but I've routinely downloaded far bigger compilations of software, and USB sticks/cards of 64Gb or more have become far more affordable.
If you want a smaller download, and don't need all the games, and some of the content, the plan is to release COS 3.1 around Christmas, essentially as a lite version.
This will be due to COS3 finally getting an alternate installer/launcher, so there's no need to bundle all the content (although it has been an invaluable learning experience on how to get there).

Oh, no problem, and thanks for replying.
I'm very happy with 2.0. And I have a whole other PC for 3.0 fresh install almost ready to go, so that'll be a whole 2 times I can tinker and learn from mistakes before all my toys are broken.
