COS2 Installation halting at 95% GRUB Failed

Post by DJBodkin »

Hi,

I’m having trouble installing OS 2 vision on my laptop.

I have a laptop with windows 11 and I would like to be able to dual boot to OS Vision 2.0.

Is this possible?

I have tried, but I get the attached errors

GRUB Installation failed. You can reboot to the live medium and use the GRUB Rescue menu to repair the installation

The following drives are, or will be, setup with GPT, but do not have a BIOS GRUB partition

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated :D

Well, I managed to resolve the issue and I’m now kind of dual booting.

Needed to free up more space on the partition. 50gb for the install and this allowed the install to complete past 95%

Every time I boot I just need to access the boot menu and select the OS (COS2) or (Windows)

Partition must be over 40gb for Linux. My BAD 😜

Computer Crashing at 95% GRUB

Post by Barclaybunch »

My laptop, gets all the way to 95% and freezes. Cursor is static, nothing happens, waiting hours nothing.

This is when installing from USB stick. OS runs ok from stick, but won’t install onto internal HDD

100GB HDD SSID.

Did you use Rufus to write the USB?

Yes I did. I’ve installed on another laptop with a smaller 64GB SSD and it worked. But still freezes on the other one. It’s an old Celeron 1.2ghz 8Gb

How big is the HD partition you are installing to?
Could this be a partition size issue which resolved the problem for the former poster?

Re: Installation halting at 95% GRUB Failed (?)

Post by Arish12 »

If your installation is halting at 95% with a GRUB Failed error, it’s likely due to an issue with where the bootloader is being installed. Double-check your disk partition settings and make sure you're installing GRUB to the correct drive (usually /dev/sda). You can try reinstalling the bootloader manually through a live environment. Also, check BIOS settings—especially UEFI/Legacy boot options—as they can affect GRUB installation success. nulls brawl

Thanks for the proposed solution Arish12.

The original poster posed the question for COS2.
Let us know if you are still having the same issue with COS3.
