Commodore buy

Post by Robsth »

Okay so i have seen the video on the Commodore brand buy, if you guys can pull that off it will be awesome. To many great Commodore things out there without the logo. All the The64mini/maxi would have looked so much better with the original logo on it for example.
Btw did i see that right are Retro games going to make the A1200 Maxi? I would prefer that over the A500 Maxifor sure. Better would be for me the A600 as it is smaller.
But hey i am not complaining and will but the 1200 for sure even though i have 2 real ones.

I have been watching the Channel from The Fractics for some time now and i do think he and all of you guys will finally make something of Commodore if you can buy it or at least get a good deal on licensing.
It has been clear to me with all the support on the new stuff that there are enough ppl interested, so to have actual fans making real Commodore stuff ? That would be awesome.

I feel that the now owners have been killing Commodore with all those license fees ,lets hope that is now over.

What would you guys like to see from the new Commodore?

Me? Some kind of fast computer classic OS based and you can choose what case you want. I don´t have an Amiga 600 for example so i would want that.

We have so many interesting products in mind.
New surprising possibilities materialising every day.
I think people are really going to like them.
I can't wait for Peri's part two (or three) so we can finally tell you about them. It's gonna be epic.

I understand one can be jaded or maybe choose not to get it or see the point of buying Commodore.
To them I say, "That's fine. You do you, and we'll do us."
The thing is, in spirit, the people involved in this Commodore brand purchase feel we've always been Commodore.
Like its a part of our identity. Short of it never having going out of business, what can be more authentic Commodore than that?

The critics unfortunately also don't consider that its not a matter of doing "just this" OR "just that".
It's more likely to be a matter of doing this AND that and probably that AND that as well.
Everything is on the table. Some things you can't even imagine. If you were a fly on the wall you'd be shocked.
There might be products you resonate with and there may also be products that you resonate less with, and yet there is a market for both.
It's a matter of working with all the camps and community products, not as adversaries of them.
They seem to forget that unlike any previous Commodore owner we're not only aware of, but long time fans of practically everything the Commodore retro community does.
No one is forcing anyone in the community to license the brand, or even jack up their prices.
Indeed with our help some community projects may even be assisted in marketing and manufacturing at scale, lowering their costs.
As most marketers would know, identifiable branded products are more likely to make a sale.
And its a likelihood far greater than a mere 6.4% (of a wholesale, not retail, price mind you).

Look at how well Atari is doing lately bringing back the brand with growing revenues year upon year.
Why shouldn't "Commodore" be an entity in that growing(not shrinking) retro market?
And with retro as a market entry point, one would hope that Commodore can potentially grow and blossom into creating more universally accepted innovative mainstream products and technologies that seem absurdly out of reach at the moment.
There are so many possibilities being spoken about daily in our circle.
I'm truly excited by what the future holds.

Well said, i completely agree with you, this is really the moment to do this as the retro spirit is high right now. But that said obviously there is a lot of room to do all "retro and new" stuff. Here is hoping. Personally i will try to do all i can to help out with this.

Well, I am totally onboard with it. I hope it will happen. I can see it being good for the purists who love the original hardware, those looking for something more modern like with the C64x, and those in between that blend old with new like FPGA.

There are many things that can be done to accommodate all those who enjoy and love the Commodore brand. It is sad to see many people on social media not understanding what is possible - all the more reason this needs to happen, and happen now, with you, Christian, and Sean: You all seem to have a excellent grasp on how to keep Commodore alive, and more than that... bring it back for all.

I mentioned over on the Retro Recipe Patreon how it would be nice to see a premium version of Commodore Vision OS, and modern 'retro style' software developed to run specifically on the Commodore OS. I love to imagine a store like Steam or GOG, but that caters specifically to programs being made for the original Commodore Systems as well as modern retro that has the look, sound, and feel of those old games to run on the Commodore OS. I am actually working (slowly) on a graphical text adventure using Python and Pygame, with pixel AGA type graphics to have the look and sound of something that would have played on a A1200, but for modern systems. If developers started in earnest making software for the original hardware and the C64x, and had a place to sell it that is specific to the Commodore Brand... I would cry tears of joy. Atari is making it happen... Commodore should too.

I almost bought a C64x shortly after the review on Retro Recipes many months ago, but help off. I was getting around to doing it again when the latest video dropped about buying Commodore - and I paused in my purchase. I want to wait and see where this is going, and hopefully buy a fully Commodore Branded C64x... or a C128x (I had the 128 as a kid). Currently I am running Commodore Vision OS on a Optiplex 7050 and coding the game mentioned above using it, and love it, but am looking forward to things to come for the better.

Best of Luck!!
