Shutting down or restarting hangs system

Post by bluejeans »

Just stays on the wallpaper. This happened to a friend as well as myself (Don't know his specs, I have a ryzen 5600x, msi b550 a pro, rtx 3070). Also couldn't interact with any ui elements upon boot unless I used my rear usb or front usb 2 ports. Also, I have to install proprietary nvidia drivers to avoid a lot of issues (1080p getting letterboxed, games trying to run at 1280x1024 85hz which my monitor doesn't support, some games just blank screen). Wine seems to crash a lot too - not trying to use it for anything other than the included games. I do like this distro but for some reason it seems to have a lot of bugs that I've never come across when using a variety of different distros. I can't interact with the gui once everything loads on virtualbox, either, however it works fine on vmware.

That's interesting. I could never get it to run in VirtualBox, no matter what I tried (Although I was running VB from inside ZorinOS, an Ubuntu based distro), and it's the only OS I can't get to run inside of VB.
However, so far as running COS on hardware - It runs great on my old Toughbook (i5 5300U, built in graphics of course) and it screams on my desktop: Ryzen 5 3600, Radeon RX5700 XT, it's super stable so far.
Maybe it's an NVidia thing?

I thought so too, that's why I bought it to my friend who has a radeon 5000 series (The new one, not the HD). I couldn't remember which game did the letterboxing and out of range signal, so we didn't test for that.

Sorry you're having issues.

Which game was it that caused your monitor to freak out?
We can find and delete the config, and then the game will probably reset and launch in windowed mode where you can set the resolution.

Also note that there are many games that fail because it is required that they run on real hardware (not on virtual hardware).
If you look at the game list you will see these highlighted with an *.

This one failed on real hardware, strangely a wine one crashed wine but still ran the game. I really don't remember which game it was but I think it was either of the flight sims.

It failed on hardware? On the install? I tried it on several pcś no problem with the usb start or install. The only thing i found is that you need like 90 gb on the hdd for it to install correctly. With less it hung the install.

Ah...okay.. So it would seem that this issue occurs due to a lack of HD space. Thanks.

Just shutting down or restarting using the live distro. I may have had the same issue on hardware but I haven't used that in a while so I can't remember. However, on hardware I have 200gb free space.
